The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill was debated today (29.11.25) at the House of Commons.
This has been one of the most personal and challenging political decisions that I have made. Over the past few weeks, I have been overwhelmed by the hundreds of emails sharing personal stories, insights, and opinions - each one helping me to navigate this difficult decision. This is an issue of immense importance to our community, and I want to assure you that I have taken every message to heart, carefully considering both sides of the debate.
After much reflection, research and reasoning, I voted in favour of allowing the bill to progress to its next stage in Parliament. By supporting the Bill at the Second Reading, I will enable the Bill to move onwards to the Committee Stage, Report Stage and finally a Third Reading, where further discussions and scrutiny can take place in greater depth. This is a subject that deserves careful consideration, and it is vital that we continue to explore all the ethical, medical, and personal implications before reaching any further conclusions.
My own experience of watching my father through the final stages of his life gave me a deeper understanding of how important dignity and compassion are in our final moments. Assisted dying provides an option for individuals to take control – offering peace and dignity in a compassionate way.
I have been moved by the heartfelt messages from so many of you sharing your experiences and perspectives. These voices have weighed heavily on me and made the decision incredibly complex, but they have also guided me to act in a way I hope represents our community, with care and respect.
I recognise that this will not align with the views of everyone on Ynys Môn, however, I hope you will trust that I have approached this issue with the care, empathy, and the seriousness it deserves. I will continue to question issues of safeguarding, the capacity of the NHS and family influence.
My door remains open, and I welcome your continued input as this process moves forward.
Thank you,
Llinos Medi MP
