It is now 12 months since Plaid Cymru came to power again on Anglesey County Council and since Llinos Medi was elected Leader of the Council following the very successful elections in May 2022.
"As a Council we have committed to provide the best possible services for all of the island’s inhabitants despite the economic situation and cost of living crisis which is a challenge to each and every one of us," said Llinos.
When campaigning last year the overwhelming message delivered to us on the doorstep was that the people of Anglesey are worried about the housing crisis and our promise to ensure everyone has somewhere to call home was one which struck a chord. As part of that vision we have taken advantage of the power given to us to raise the Council Tax premium on second homes on the island.
"With the money derived from the premium we have brought empty houses back into use, have bought former Council houses and brought them back into the Authority’s own stock and have set up a shared equity fund to help people get their first step up on the property ladder," she added.
"This strategy of allowing those who can afford more than one house to help those who can not yet afford a house is vital if we are to ensure local houses for local people."
One person who championed these plans was our dear friend, former Councillor Alun Mummery, who died last December.
"I can’t let this opportunity pass without paying tribute to an incredible gentleman who did so much for his community, for the island and for Plaid Cymru," said Llinos.
Sonia Williams kept Alun’s seat for Plaid Cymru in a by-election in the Aethwy Ward in March by promising to continue Alun’s good work. With 21 Plaid Cymru Councillors working hard for the island’s interests, we are confident we can make a long term difference to the Council’s services and ensuring a healthy and prosperous Anglesey where everyone can thrive.
